Who is God?
Music/lyrics by Patrick J. Morris, DVM, DACZM as "n of one"
Light year by light year,
Outward we push,
Further and further,
From the light of the burning bush,
And Angstrom by Angstrom, inward we peer,
With answers the mystery,
Slowly disappears.
Who is God?
Why does he watch,
As the babies die?
Where is God?
Why does he sleep,
While the children cry?
Who is God?
Is he the Almighty Creator?
Or just a mildly amused,
Divine spectator?
We pray for solutions,
To trivialities,
To influence oucomes,
Of senseless games,
We pray for miracles,
For fortune and fame,
For war and for death,
And all in his name,
And who is God?
Why does he watch,
As the babies die?
Where is God?
Why does he sleep,
Why the children cry?
Who is God?
Has he been deafened by the bleating,
Of this flock,
Now incognizant,
Of his meaning?
Confessional catharsis,
Ritual Rite,
Sacrificial lambs,
Ku Klux night ride,
Shrines and sculptures,
Painting and song,
Masses and Calvary,
All screaming at God,
And so God,
Wonders why,
We watch as our children die,
And just why,
We all sleep,
As our babies cry,
Why we toss away,
The gifts he gave us,
To save us from ourselves,
Don't ask God,
Don't ask God,
Don't ask God.
