On a daytrip to Sweetwater and Jane Goodall's Chimp Preserve, we met Marani, a black, male rhino. Marani, meaning Warrior, was injured at a young age by a neighboring male who apparently felt threatened by his presence. The tangle with this other male resulted in castration and the residents/staff at Sweetwater came to finish raising and caring for Marani. As you can see, he is comfortable with humans and has lost a lot of his wildness. A group of twelve of us was able to get up close and personal with Marani, feeding him leaves from nearby brush.
