Bruizer’s custom bed cover

After seeing a friend’s aluminum bed cover that he made, so I thought that I could make one of my own.  I decided to change the design a little so I could have compartments to store tools and other things in.  This was the first time for me to make any thing out of aluminum and pop rivets.  I went down to the Yard Store and got a large sheet of aluminum, some aluminum angle, aluminum piano hinge, and a latch.

After measuring, cutting and a lot of cutting disks, I had the main pieces cut.

This picture shows the top subbed up.

The hard part was getting everything lined up and riveted together.

I then set it back in the Zuk and started on the door.

The door took some time to get the latch in, line it up, round out the corners properly, and make all the linkages for the latch.

Now that it is done I have a lockable bed cover that is completely separate from the cab.  The top is made so the tailgate can be unlocked and opened with out having to unlock or open the top door.  This design works both ways with the doors.  The top is not perfectly water tight, but what Samurai is, however, it does provide a great place to store tow ropes, shackles, tools, and more.  The ½ cab that I made seals up very well and keeps me warm during the winter.
