The Book of Shadows is, most basically, a collection of information pertinent to your witchcraft. It is your spiritual grimoire. It is sometimes called the Book of Light, Book of Shadows and Light, or any number of other names. Many believe that the Book of Shadows (BoS) has ancient roots; others point to Gerald Gardner as the creator of this concept.

Regardless of how old the idea is or who came up with it, it serves a functional purpose for witches today. It is a way to organize thoughts and ideas, to preserve records of past magickal rites, ceremonies, and other workings, to collect new information, or anything else you want! It can look any way you want, be on paper or on your computer, be expensive or not - it's up to you. I use several 3-ring binders to organize my information: one for correspondences, one for spells, rituals, chants, meditations, and visualizations, and one for information on witchcraft (both the religious aspect and spirituality). I like to do it this way because I want to have a paper copy available to me while I'm working, and the binder allows me to change the order of information and add new pages easily.

I've decided to use my online BoS to try to provide you with information that you may not be able to find anywhere else (or, at least, that isn't as readily available). I've written information and my personal interpretations of the Witch's Pyramid (to know, to will, to dare, to be silent). If you're looking for the usual BoS stuff (correspondences, etc.), you can check out the Correspondences and Spell Basics sections.
