Energy is what makes magick happen, and why it works. It is the fundamental unit of the Universe - everything contains it. Light and sound are both types of energies. Even in space - in a void or "vacuum" devoid of matter (energy particles), energy still has an effect through forces (attraction, repulsion, and some the scientific world doesn't understand yet). Deity has much the same properties as energy - deity exists universally and is in everything, from the smallest grain of "star dust" to the largest stars and planets in the universe. It is present in everything on Earth, yet is extremely accessible and easy to work with on an individual level. It is both overwhelming huge and able to fit in the palm of your hand. And it is very important for the witch to be able to work with.

   At first it was very hard for me. I consider myself a "rational" person, and some part of me was always skeptical of magick and witchcraft because I had been taught to think of it skeptically. I wanted to believe it worked, but part of me was holding back. Once I experienced energy, however, combined with my knowledge of chemistry and physics of what little we know of energy and its many forms, I understood that magic does work, and that energy is something I can work with. Armed with this knowledge, I'm embarking on a journey of knowledge and self-discovery, a key element of which is energy work.

   In this section I've listed the steps in energy work before, during, and after magickal work, as well as some original exercises I came up with that worked for me. The order of energy work for ritual is: centering (before ritual), grounding (before ritual), raising energy (during ritual), directing energy (during ritual), and grounding again (after ritual).
