The Jazz Project - The Twin Utility

Twin is a stand alone utility built from a subset of the Jazz components. Twin presents a scrollable view of a text document from a data source, such as a file or URL. It supports Unicode, UTF-8, traditional ASCII text, and simple HTML. Binary files can be viewed according to rules based on content. By default JPEG and GIF files display as images, others in hexadecimal. Multiple data sources can be joined, collated, or filtered. This filtered or unfiltered data stream can be passed to one or more additional command pipelines, or written to files and other writable destinations.

As its name suggests, Twin can clone its output stream. Filters can be applied directly to the data source, to the view, or to the output stream or any one of its channels. Composed user input can also be one of the data sources. User controls allow defining the session parameters, such as attaching filters, setting view preferences, applying search patterns, and declaring encodings. Twin is extensible. Custom filters can be developed. Special handling can be associated with a content type. These customizations can be written in Java, or by setting preferences.
