Alderian Empire

The country of Alderia is perhaps the most important country in the known world. It is the home of the Empire, former ruler of the known world, now reduced to just this area. The Empire was the center of culture up until the advent of the rebellion against its oppressive rule. After being defeated, each country got their say on the form of government they so desired. Alderia was given a chance to form its own independent government, but the leadership of the island elected to stay with the Imperial state.

The new Emperor of Alderia is Zangrieve, son of the previous Emperor Callius. Zangrieve is a mage, though neither a necromancer nor a lich like the former Chancellor, Ashawahenon. Since the death of the Emperor, Zangrieve is touted to be the third most powerful wizard in the world. The new Emperor is much more conniving and sly than his predecessor. He wishes to see the recreation of Callius’s reign, but with himself as the Emperor. He plans to do so through subversion and guile, unlike the heavy handed approach of his predecessors.

The population of Alderia is rather diverse. Still, humans make up more than fifty percent of the population. This is followed by dwarves, orcs, ogres, and elves. Alderians live in six cities besides the countryside. Most of these cities are within the grassland area of the continent, though one city is within the hills in the north. As is true around the known world, only 10% of all available land can be considered civilized. The rest is wilderness. Most cities have a thirty mile diameter zone of control surrounding them. Towns generally have around fifteen miles, villages five miles. Apart from these cultivated and patrolled areas, no control can be had.

The Alderian military is easily the largest in the known world. Whereas the standard ratio of militia to residents is one to ten in the rest of the countries, Alderia sports an excessive 1.5 to 10 ratio. Added to this figure are the professional navy and knights. Although their navy was devastated at the Battle of Point Carse, the Alderians are quickly rebuilding their core fleet back to its original strength.
