Hausbeck Hausbeck joined the rebellion near the beginning of the war. A balanced military force at the time, the Hausbecks formed a fair portion of the rebel force. Though they fought extremely well, the Hausbeck military slowly became irritated with their allies. Right before the Battle at Point Carsa, the island’s leadership decided to recall its troops. Luckily for the rebels, the order did not arrive until after the battle’s conclusion. After the war, Hausbeck retreated into itself to prepare for the constant conflicts associated with balkanization. Ashawahenon fled to Hausbeck after the Battle at Point Carsa. Using his magical powers, and allying with a band of extremist mages, his group pulled a coup. Thus, the rulership of the land became controlled by the mages, led by the evil lich as its president. The borders were closed for the most part, causing numerous rumors to circulate about what happened. Hausbeck is a populous land. Surrounding the foothills, and all along the coastline, is an area of grassland. A forest provides the border with its major enemy, Rohaj. The land is extremely fertile, able to support a heavier population than normally possible. Humanity is the only race with rights in the population. All other races are regarded with suspicion. The worst, however, is elves. Hausbeck humans believe all elves are spies. Therefore, elves are very restricted in their movements. Other races are subjugated, such as the numerous orcs and ogres which have been impressed into the military. Dwarves, understandably, have left the area. Surprisingly, four cities can be found within the country. Due to the land’s fertility mentioned earlier, these cities can harvest more food per acre than any other region in the known world. This has made the land coveted by other islands. This has only helped to enhance Hausbeck’s mages. Hausbeck’s military is evenly divided between navy and army. The Hausbeck navy keeps a tight patrol around the island, looking for ships smuggling in spies. The army, besides providing land protection, has units which act as a secret police force. These troops are zealous in their search for spies among the populace of Hausbeck. Content Copyright 2005, David West David West/lightfinger@cox.net |
