Penta

Penta was not the first land or the last country involved with the rebellion. They participated in most engagements fought during the war. However, Pentan troops never distinguished themselves in any battles. This is a source of great embarrassment for the Pentans. After the war, this embarrassment has caused more strife than could be imagined.

Penta has no ruler, as the strife caused by the rebellion has culminated in numerous warlords attempting to prove their worth. Eight warlords are more powerful than the others vying for supremacy. Seven of these warlords are in control of sizable cities on the island. The eighth is on a small island offshore. This island is the home of Lightfinger’s Legion, the best mercenary force in the world, despite its leader supposedly deceased.

Penta’s terrain is primarily of two types, either mountains or forests. The forests cover hills, making the terrain a nightmare for military actions, and probably contributes to the fact the land is not unified. In fact, Penta is routinely invaded on all three sides, and is subjected to pirate raids and trading along the coast.

No accurate census has been able to be performed in the country. Thus, no demographic breakdown has been able to be performed. It is believed humans are the most predominate of the races. But without any accurate measuring techniques, this is only speculation.

As stated earlier, the urban area of Penta consists of seven cities, each controlled by a different warlord. At any time, each city may be peaceful or warlike, depending on the whims of each warlord. Throughout the countryside, various warlords battle for supremacy over each other. This chaos provides many opportunities for mercenaries and less than legal adventurers.

Penta has no military which is unified. Instead, each warlord has his or her own band to fight others. The same situation exists with the non-existent navy. The only area universally regarded as the strongest defended is the island housing Lightfinger’s Legion. Other areas, despite the public relations scare tactics, have all been overrun at least twice over the past few years. The forces found in each warlord’s service are unstructured and could quite possibly contain nearly any sort of creature.
