It's hard to see, but this is kind of a duplex. The two one-car driveways and carports are beside each other, so the houses didn't have a common wall. These were a bit smaller than the typical house Americans rented. The fence and flowers, however, are very typical.

Most houses did not have automatic hot water heaters. You had to light the gas to have a hot shower, wash dishes, etc. I burned my eyebrows off one night lighting the heater - too much Happy Hour? Stephanie was afraid of the gas, and preferred to take a cold shower rather than fool with the heater.
