School Residency Programs
with Impact

"Building bridges between the arts and education"

Choose a Southwest Brass mini residency which lasts one day or our more extensive residency program which could last from several days to several months.

Residency designs are creative and flexible!

Elementary school residencies might include a blending of science (outer space, dinosaurs, environment) and music or maybe history and social studies (Arizona, music from around the world, America) and music. Residency participants might include the entire school or they can be limited to a grade level or to music students. Band, orchestra, and choral students often participate in performances with the Sizzling Southwest Brass in a final concert for their parents.

High school and middle school residencies usually focus on the band and music program. In depth study includes a combination of lecture demonstrations, public performances, clinics and master classes, sectionals, rehearsals, and a final concert with the Sizzling Southwest Brass.

Southwest Brass customized school residency programs will:

Establish a creative environment at your school by relating music and the arts to education and to your students' daily lives; Teach faculty, parents, and students to work together in a spirit of cooperation; Give your school visibility in the community; Bring your neighborhood and school community together.

Sample Mini Residency

1. Preliminary classroom sessions.

Brief description - Our assembly programs take on a much broader dimension when preceded by our exciting classroom explorations. Your students will journey back in time to hear an ancient trumpet made out of a giant sea shell, a cow horn, and of course, the modern day garden hose! Not only will students experience the science of tone production, but they will also learn how to listen to music of all types. They will understand how music is a very special language and how moods can be created by changing the speed, the dynamics, and the musical style of the music itself.

It is best to schedule a presentation for each grade so that the material can be adapted to the maturity level of each age group.

Expose your band to professional musicians. The impact is amazing.

Experts in communication with kids of all ages, Russ and Deborah Plylar personally conduct each stimulating session.

Of course, this is a perfect opportunity for your school to expose your band students to professional musicians by scheduling a clinic designed especially for them!

2. Choose an exciting assembly program.

Finish the day's residency activities with an exciting concert slide show assembly program.
