The Stars Might Lie

By: Em-Spider

Longshot opened the paper. He always loved to look at his horoscope and prove it wrong. his hroscope for that day said : "Bad times ahead. Don't get out of bed until next week."

He chuckled. Just for fun, he'd try and win something that was pure chance. He thought he'd ask Alison what there was to play.

"Alison?"

"What?" she said.

"What kind of game is there on earth that takes utter luck and chance to win?"

"The lottery. You get a ticket with some numbers on it, and they use a machine to get numbered balls out to make a totally random number. If you get the number on your ticket that they pull out of the machine, you win a lot of money."

"Great! Where can I play?"

"You're crazy, lover. You'll never win anything. You'll just lose a dollar!"

"So what? It'll be fun. Please?"

Alison sighed. "Fine. But even if you lose, you pay me back the dollar. You can get a ticket at a gas station in New York."

"Deal! And Alison?"

"Yeah?"

"I won't lose."

"Sure. Right."

Longshot walked jauntily down the streets of New York City, his lottery ticket in his pocket. He whistled a sort of tuneless song that Spiral had taught him, and looked for a television. There was one! He ran up to it. It was playing the lottery drawing.

The announcer gave the numbers one by one. Longshot followed along, growing happier by the second. Each number was correct! He'd won the $11 million dollar jackpot!

Suddenly, his heart sank to the pit of his stomach. Alison had never told him where to pick up the money if he won! He grumbled something foul in the language of the Mojoverse.

He figured it was okay, anyway, because he'd won. He'd fooled the system. Ha! Couldn't have won without his powers. Not by a longshot.

In case you're wondering, I got the story title from a song. Part of it goes; "Hey, the stars might lie, but the numbers never do..."

I think it's funny. :) Plus, I promised Bevvie a Longshot 'fic.

P.S.: I don't believe in astrology.
